The Burning Oil and The Shining Lamp

Most of the time we get inspired by reading about successful people. We admire their success and aspire to become like them. But we do not know their success story. We do not know the effort made by them to achieve that success. We do not know about the hindering obstacles in their life and about the efforts made by them in overcoming those obstacles. In all, we see only 'The Shining Lamp' but we do not know about amount of 'The Oil' burnt to gain that shine.
The thought of writing this blog came to my mind after seeing the result of Indian Civil Services Examination - one of the most difficult examinations in the world. The result itself inspires many Indians to become like one of the selected 998 candidates. This year, 2013, total 5,36,506 candidates applied for this examination but only 0.186 percent bright candidates got chance to fulfill their dream of becoming Administrative Officer. Selected candidates are now 'The Shining Lamps' for all the aspirants and other people but, again, we do not know the amount of 'The Oil' burnt by them to crack the exam.
The topper of the exam, Haritha V Kumar, appeared four times for this examination and topped in her last attempt. Previously she managed to secure 179th and 294th rank. Making an attempt to clear such exam is itself a mammoth task. On that, securing a rank in top 300 is not less than climbing a mountain. But she secured first rank - I do not know what metaphor should I give to this achievement.
This is not about securing rank, this is about keeping yourself positive and never losing the hope. This is what she said:
"I did not clear the exams first time. I got 179th rank in the second attempt and got IRS. But last year my rank dropped to 294. I did not lose heart and my efforts have borne fruit".

Keeping yourself focused and motivated is the biggest task in achieving your goal. One should always think that nothing is impossible in this world and everything can easily be achieved by hard work, positive mood and motivation.
If we want to shine like 'The Shining Lamp' we have to Burn huge amount of oil to keep ourselves energetic, concentrated and continuously approaching towards our goal.
We should take into consideration the efforts made in bringing the shine to the lamp and not only the intensity of glow.
